First, I'm not an Obama supporter, so you make the wrong assumption there. And I think he received a lot of scrutiny on some subjects that Faux Noose was pushing (he's not a citizen, he's a Muslim, he's an angry black man, he's a communist, etc.) which took away from the REAL issues he should have had to answer to. That political hit job came from the RIGHT-WING media, and was quickly picked up by the mainstream media precisely because they have moved closer to the Right.

Last I checked, Joe the Pluber and Bristol Palin weren't running for President, but I could be mistaken… maybe I missed something.

See, tompain, elections are the reason Obama won. You can't blame me, and you can't blame the “liberal media.” It's what happens when you hold elections. Someone WINS. That's the part you're having a difficult time with. Your guy lost.

I'm as much an American as you are, and I would put my love for Freedom up against yours any day. See, I have a much more broad view of what freedom is. Yours, however, seems to be that of all the wing-nut Republics: “If you don't agree with ME, you aren't a 'freedom-loving' American!” That isn't how it works. And if I choose to emigrate, it will be because your side has taken over and I don't want to live under a theocratic fascist state… which is what your side wants. The antithesis of FREEDOM. But that's MY decision to make. I may just as well decide to stay. But you have no authority to say whether I'm a “Freedom-loving American” or not.

Yes, I'm a Democratic Socialist! Boo! Boo! Did that scare you? See, in this country, I'm free to believe that. Still.

We can demonstrate to the average republican that they are not in the tax bracket — and likely never will be — to benefit from the reforms they're frothing for. We can state figures relating to the working poor, and the myth of welfare queens. We can show how the independence of private corporations is a lie, and that they use every loophole possible to suck the public teat.

But none of it fucking matters to them. They just want to scream and scapegoat something. They have a video game perception of the world, and they think there's a final boss out there that they can defeat.

The only way I can think of to win over a conservative is to transgress their perception through omission. That is, stage a situation where they meet a member of the working poor. They can work together on something — like a project through a church — and it will humanize the person, just maybe make it harder to believe ideology.

Traditional protests only work in a country with a functioning media, where public perception matters and can be turned. But at least half of Americans are screaming for their masters. Demonstrations are covered at the discretion of private news outlets. Part of the growth of the idiotic Tea Party movement can be attributed to the intense coverage which exaggerated its reach.

If you have an idea you've put off for any moral reason, I suggest abandoning those morals. I don't want to hear that we'd be no better than them. We are way fucking past that smug bullshit. 45,000 Americans a year: dead from lack of health insurance. Working people!

Do something, and do it now.
