The Curious Case of Alvin Greene

We knew when one good old boy called GOP candidate Nikki Haley a raghead that there was something foul going on down in South Carolina. But this brother takes the cake. Alvin Greene, despite facing felony charges for allegedly showing obsene photographs to a college student and then telling her he wanted to go to her dorm room -- despite having no assets or income even, despite the fact that he lives at home with his father, despite having no website, despite doing no fundraising, despite not even having a campaign staff: This brother, not only musters the $10,000 filing fee to run for Senate, but he wins the Democratic primary in South Carolina. In my mind, this can mean only one thing: Someone rigged the Democratic primaries down in Dixieland. "The Democratic Party has chosen their nominee, and we have to stand behind their choice," Greene told the AP. "The people have spoken. We need to be pro-South Carolina, not anti-Greene." Court records show Greene was arrested in November and charged on a felony oscenity charge. Greene could face up to five years in prison. He has yet to enter a plea or be indicted. Greene is not talking about the oscenity charge, but the 19-year-old he allegedly approached is. Camille McCoy, a 19-year-old at the University of South Carolina, said she called campus police after Greene sat down next to her in a computer lab and asked her to look at his screen, which showed a pornographic website. "I said, 'That's offensive,' and he sat there laughing," said McCoy, who was 18 at the time. "It was very disgusting. He said, 'Let's go to your room now.' It was kind of scary. He's a pretty big boy. He could've overpowered me." Interview with Alvin Greene Do I think those good old boys down in South Carolina are above putting a plant in the Democratic primaries? No. Clearly, when they had a Republican operative claim to have had an adulturous affair with Nikki Haley, it was pretty damn clear they were willing to stoop that low. What is surprising is that they were this smart. And exactly how did they do it? Now, the GOP has been quick to lash out, calling these accusations ridiculous, claiming this only represents how thin the Democratic bench really is, but come on now -- no money, no campaign buttons, no fundraisers, no meet and greets, not even a yard sign, and this brother wins, in a state where both Democrats and Republicans can vote in the primary? I'm just wondering how long it will take for Greene to crack under the pressure. Obviously the brother is not playing with a full deck, and it won’t be too long before he spills the beans. Let’s just hope he does it soon. Within a few weeks, many Americans will have likely forgotten all about the seriously peculair brother named  Alvin Greene. See the story with video
