The cause of violence in Mexico is a telling little article.

I don't always agree with what I read anywhere, but this one rings very true for me. I highly recommend giving it a look.

Side note: I was in Costa Rica not long ago in Manuel Antonio. Up on the hill there's a place with an old cargo plane sticking out of it. It's call The Contra Bar. It's one of Ollie North's planes. The other was shot down. Maybe it's just me, but it still smells funny in there.

One more thing, many people here get the weekly dispatch from CATO Institute. The article shows that the guards who blew the whistle on a corrupt fellow employee were doing at least part of their job. It makes me wonder though, what her supervisor had his fingers wrapped around all day.

Capone bought the Chicago Police wholesale. In New York other Mafia families did the same thing. That's just history I hear someone saying. But the motivator is still with us. The Mexican Mafia and our domestic drug interests have so much more money than Capone or 100 years of Organized Crime ever thought of.

The FBI did 2500 investigations resulting in 900 arrests of public officials. No mention of the conviction rate however. I wonder what that all cost us?

Legalization and control takes the profit out of drugs for the Mexican Mafia, maybe the Afghan problem children, and our domestic peddlers. We get the taxes and we can tone down all the billions we throw at something that clearly doesn't work.

Want something for the FBI, ICE, DEA, to do? How about sniffing out all the crank and crack labs? Talk about drugs that will steal the soul...

I might add one more radical concept. The subject of cocaine will rear its head in any serious discussion of drug legalization. I wonder how many of us will admit to remembering the 80's? How many people actually used it recreation-ally and how many went overboard?

Not a lot of people know that Sigmund Freud introduced cocaine as the perfect anesthetic for eye injuries and operations. I'm just sayin'.

Everything in moderation holds true for everything. Humans do stupid things. Crack and crank are two of those.

But still, I marvel at a parent that will admonish a teenager about the evils of marijuana then buy the kid a Camero or a Kawasaki rice rocket. Self inflicted mayhem seems to be a brain stem activity.

If you're like me you sometimes sit and wonder how you ever lived through your youth. I know quite a few that didn't make it (not including the VN war) and I saw a few self destruct. I think spending more on what makes a person become an addict would be far more appropriate than what we're wasting billions on right now.

Thanks for the links pleazzer. The taxes we lose to cash under the table is huge. The taxes we lose from employers fantasy reporting is huge. Illegals send the money out anyway. They also spend a lot to be in the USA in food, rent, clothing, tools, entertainment, electronics, the list goes on. They are consumers too.

When they come across the border they want to buy things you already have and take for granted. When you have a cup of coffee it's hard to think of someone who doesn't own a cup when they come across. No, they are good for the economy.

When you think about it, the numbers are hugely in our favor and against the Mexican Mafia, our own huge expenditures on enforcement that still doesn't work, insurance paid by workers instead of depleting our public health and welfare funds, and much better control of who gets in. Just bring a copy of your criminal record and your passport for your work-visa. Other countries do it, why can't we?

Trade imbalances are the work of large corporations. Smaller enterprise has a huge opportunity they are not taking advantage of. I wish I could talk to you directly and tell you why. But suffice to say I can get you a deal on fine alpaca inexpensively. There are many items made in the USA that are popular in Central and South America but nobody is exporting them. I know this to be absolutely true. NAFTA could work really well for small business but people don't understand how. It's not going away, so why not make it work on a main street/entrepreneurial level? You know; when live gives you lemons...

As to the money they send out. That helps an upside down economy right next door. They don't ask for handouts, they work. The more money that is infused into that economy, the better off we are. We want and need the workers. The number of visas issued is controllable. The penalty for hiring or working undocumented would be very serious indeed. That's just it, we'd have some control. We don't now.
As to legal pot in America; the Maryjane mules will have to eat their own grass.

I think the savings on border enforcement alone wold be in the multi-millions bracket perhaps more. It would be minimized if the Mexican Cartel were not getting profits from drug sales inside the USA and just workers sending out money. I would tend to believe that drug money out weights worker income being sent out.

I would have to add, money being sent out by both workers and drug dealers affects our economy now. That is the amount of money that is sent out of the USA when they are paid. Legal immigrants when paid send a lot of money out of our country, I am not saying they do not have the right to do so just that it is a fact. The more money that goes out and is not spent here the more negative effect it does have.
But for the most part I agree with what you have said. I would add that NAFTA is crap because of the trade imbalance and difference of monetary value (of goods) each participant puts on them.
Most of this failure can be placed on the front door of our elected officials. They have not put pressure when needed because they are usually after some other trinket and to rock the boat or to allow the imbalance is just another form of PAY OFF.

The only downside I see, but it happens now anyway and it may increase if there is a large worker program.
