Latino Progressives Fight Back Against Tea Party Smears

A lot of us have been angry and bewildered by the rise of hateful brands in America these days — FOX News and its many bigoted anchors, the Tea Partiers, the Patriots, to name but a few. After all, there’s a whole slew of them.

At the receiving end of many of these folks’ rancor is the nation’s fastest-growing demographic group, Latinos.

Many of them joined forces last year with Presente.org to call on CNN to dismiss Lou Dobbs who’d built a viewership around immigrant hate-mongering, even though his own wife is Mexican-American. The campaign to oust Lou Dobbs was successful, and perhaps that’s why the Brave New Foundation sees that there’s a lot of organizing energy to harness among Latino progressives.

Cuéntame is a new group that aims to produce cultural media (tied with take action directives) for progressive Latinos in the United States, and among their first videos are three which spell out how the Tea Baggers scapegoat and otherwise defame Latinos.

The great thing about these videos is that they ought appeal to any American — indeed, they point out not only hateful actions toward Latinos but also toward many other minority groups.
