If this video doesn’t anger you, rethink the social role of the police.
There is no dispute about what the man in this video physically did. What isn’t recorded on the tape is what he may have said. However, I don’t believe anything that the man could have said would have warranted what he received. Even if the officers were demanding that he turn around and walk the other way, his non-violent refusal to do so could not possibly justify the beating–not here, not anywhere. All officers involved in this beating should be suspended, and their firing should be considered.
If we continue to slap police on the wrist for such abuses, nothing is going to change. Far too often I hear of officers who obscenely abuse their authority being “suspended.” What is being done about the underlying problem of complicity among the “good apples” in the actions of the “bad apples?”
