Oxymoron: Military Intelligence

Just another example of the idiocy of our military system.

A single mom has no family to take care of her child, so she refuses to deploy to Afghanistan until she can find someone to take care of her child. Now, the Army is filing criminal charges against the woman. Criminal charges?

OK, first, the woman is a cook. It’s not like she’s a front line soldier who’s afraid she’s gonna get shot or killed and just doesn’t want to take the risk.

Second, she had someone lined up but that person backed out only days before the woman was to deploy, leaving her very little time to find anyone else. If she just left her child with anyone and something happened to her chlid, she’d probably be charged with abuse/neglect for leaving her child with someone who was unable to take care of him!

Third, the woman followed the protocols needed to try to get more time to find someone to care for her son and the military refused to grant her any sort of extension before forcing her to deploy.

My son joined the Air Force in 2006. He was promised so much and got so little before they honorably discharged him after only 10 months because they had to cut 44000 jobs so that the Marines and Army could recruit more people.  Michael Moore does a great piece on how the military targets poor and underprivileged neighborhoods to get people to sign up and then fails to follow through on the pre-enlistment promises recruiters make. I’m glad my son is out of the military.

I hope this young mom gets off these charges with no negative consequences.
