All over the world, countries are swimming in debt at levels they will not realistically be able to repay. Many individuals are in the same state of affairs. Many will likely die with much unpaid debt.
Default, bankruptcy happens. Has happened ever since the first person did not return a favor. People and countries have gone into default and bankruptcy throughout history. Countries have sometimes survived and revived. Sometimes disappeared and been replaced. Many current countries have histories entwined with failures and successes over many centuries. Risen from ruins of previous failures. Combined to strengthen and survive. Revived and reformed in revolutions of various sorts.
Currently many of these countries are again struggling with insurmountable burdens of debt. But they have been there before at some time. And they still exist in some different form now. Debt did not swallow the earth beneath their feet, did not transport their souls to eternal purgatory.
But there is North America. More precisely the United States. The U.S. did suffer the great depression and emerge again. But that was different. In a way more self contained and self inflicted. With a vast wealth still untapped to get out of the situation. The U.S. went on to became the self proclaimed master of the universe. The light unto the world. All powerful, all knowing. It put itself atop a pedestal through real accomplishment, and by less honorable means and methods. To maintain that position it turned more often to less honorable methods. More self destructive methods. These methods spread through out the world. The knowledge of how to avoid past failures was forgotten and put aside to keep up or at least survive in a world dominated by the system of the United States. Greed and envy infected all. The playing field was not at all level, but everybody still had to be in the game.
Now the bills are coming due. Well the bills are far overdue. The bills are being paid by borrowing more. I myself am just on the verge of no longer borrowing to pay. Two years after being laid off of a good job after a buyout. I have firsthand experience on the comparably micro scale, of the macro scale mess that is debt.
But though I am somewhat arrogant and know it almost all, I was not on so high a pedestal to fall from, as the United States has put itself on. The U.S. will not fall from grace, gracefully.
How will the U.S. default without admitting the failure of default? Must it default? I think so. I think there is a full round of worldwide default that has to happen. Wealth has accumulated into too few pockets. It is not continuously flowing as it has to. To buy something now means to borrow. There is not enough money flowing through enough pockets to pay now. A number of lenders can see that the credit limit has come. Governments that are now only politicians and not leaders, are too weak to tax or otherwise enforce the wealth back out into the flow. The only other alternative is default.
Everybody is trying desperately not to be first to fall. Furiously printing money, borrowing more. Hiding inflation as best they can. But the people at the foundation of it all are at their borrowing limit, crumbling under personal debt which will cause the debt of countries to finally crumble as well.
I look at the news and think I see a pattern. A plot? I feel the U.S. is following a plan to force as many other large economies as possible to default before the U.S. is forced to do the same. To save face and to save power. There is an economic war going on to not be first to fail. The U.S., EU and China are at war. The most mortal, physical collateral damage of this war is being inflicted on the oil producing countries of the Middle East. The rise of China requires large increase of energy consumption and raw crude feed stocks. The viable survival of the EU depends on reasonably priced energy and raw crude feed stocks. Tracking the news over the last decade or so reveals mid east oil producers making more supply deals with China, being more open to pricing oil in other currencies than the U.S. dollar. Every bit of this news seems to coincide with the U.S. initiating some sort of massive chaos in the mid east countries involved in these endeavors. The result being increased economic pressures on the EU and China with everyone else suffering collateral economic damage. The U.S. being able to maintain a more stable supply due to it’s own resources, Canada and the U.S. military being able to keep some mid east supply flowing as needed for U.S. interests.
The ultimate purpose of this chaos? To allow the U.S. to default on it’s debt gracefully, blaming it on the world wide chaos that it has created. If the EU at least defaults and ideally crumbles, hitting China with a ton of debt gone bad, plunging who knows how many other economies into chaos and defaults, then the U.S. can default with the excuse that the whole ponzi scheme has collapesed and they have no other choice. It was not their fault. They were fine, everything else fell apart first.
The result? The U.S. continues to have a gigantic military force all over the world, and does not need to borrow money to keep it in force. The mid east is likely a total U.S. fiefdom that will fuel that force abroad. The U.S. completely controls the energy flow to the EU and China at it’s pleasure and profit. The U.S. does control the whole world.
What to do?
Default now. Reset the game before it is won by cheating. During the chaos make international treaties to protect the mid east as a neutral supply of energy while smartening up and getting off the the oil teet that all are on the verge of starving from. Realign on a massive scale military and economic ties between countries threatened by the status quo.
The wild card? Russia. Energy, raw resources, military, the people. To a great extent at this moment in time, Vladimir Putin himself. At any moment the bear could upset the whole game board.
Pathetic, disgusting, sneaking thieves attempt to steal democracy when it doesn’t happen to go their way. It is truly pathetic that they think they are patriots, saving democracy and the country. They think their ideals, their candidates are so right, that any lies, trickery, intimidation and even violence are justified. What disgusting vanguards they are for their cause.
They are criminals. They are traitors to the country, it’s democratic ideals. They are so ignorant of what democracy is that they destroy it by their crimes. When it finally crumbles they will fully feel the despair of living without it. Those who seek power and allow such slime to grease their way to it, will rule as pathetic, disgusting, sneaking thieves themselves.
All over the country at all levels of the democratic process these slime are attempting to not only sway votes with lies and tricks, they are trying to block citizens from voting, intimidate them, confuse them. Is this democracy? Are your ideals so repulsive to the majority of citizens that only these crimes can allow them to be slithered into power?
Many sides have been guilty of this over the years. But it is now at such an organized large scale it is eating away the foundation of democracy. Is the ad you see a lie? Who is funding this campaign? Is this petition a lie? Is the person collecting signatures going to destroy it? Who’s side are they on? Who are they? Where is my polling station? Why can’t I vote? What is going on inside this voting machine? Is it all a lie?
So much is spent on protecting our democracy. Billions, trillions in weapons, soldiers dying in far off lands. While slimy, sneaking thieves destroy it from within.
I can imagine so many of these slime sneering at those citizens who are gathered together speaking out. People publicly, openly voicing their true desires, to this democracy. People who will vote their ideals. The slime must slither about in the shadows, mocking and attacking democracy. Trying to pervert or prevent those votes. It is the only way that even they think they can win.
The news seems to be taking a record breaking Black Friday as indicating consumers are ready to spend big. The economy will boom. We are saved.
I see it as a desperate move by more people than usual to try and save some money. I would not be surprised to see the rest of the holiday buying season to be extra slow. If it isn’t, then I suspect folks are just going to blow what is left of their credit limits. If so, the holiday debt hangover is going to be terrible.
Maybe stores will try to continue to cut prices to move inventory. But that just means less profit per sale. Maybe the stores and customers will wait it out for the after Xmas sales. Again, less profit per sale.
What ever happens this binge buying season, I can’t see it being a real boost for the economy. The numbers just don’t add up overall. Stagnant wages, debt burdens, unemployment. I feel that a major percentage of every dollar spent will be a negative in the not so long run.
There should be some great bargains on almost new items up for sale shortly after the holidays.
My suggestion for the holidays? Spend some money on good food, booze and cab fare to go share it with friends and family.
If you want to consolidate your power, it is best to keep all those who might oppose it in a constant state of chaos. It has been shown that simply wielding massive power does not guarantee being able to keep it. Over time those under your power can consolidate and organize. Those still not under your power can continue to oppose it. The cost of maintaining power can destroy you.
Keeping control eventually requires inciting chaos. Even in those areas currently under control. Have others fight amongst themselves to allow you to take a break from direct control. This will make it easy to retake control later. They may even welcome you back after suffering through a time of chaos. You can bring back your control under a new disguise that they can mistake for self control. In any case, they will have spent resources, lives and hope in a fruitless effort. It will be more economic in many ways to retake full control.
Chaos in other areas can cause distress to those enemies you are not ready to control, or that you do not wish to be seen to control. Sufficient resources are no longer contained within ones borders. To create chaos in the right area can deny your enemy resources. Shortage of resource in your enemy’s borders can allow you to penetrate those borders easier in non military ways. If your enemy is a consolidation of countries, resource shortage can destabilize that consolidation.
Chaos in the most distant and unlikely places, disguised in a variety of reasons, is a weapon. I feel this weapon is being used on a large scale at this moment in history.
Times of relative stability in the controlled are the enemy of the controller. Even if you control an area by proxy, be it tyrant or puppet government, too long a period of stability allows the puppet and the people to think, learn and finally see. Your puppets may try to use you. They may spuriously lose control and embarrass you too much or even incite unscheduled chaos. The people controlled may also finally learn too much or suffer too much and spontaneously incite unscheduled chaos. Times of stability allow the controlled to look out ward, to aspire.
Chaos is cheaper. It is cheaper in resources, both material and human. If done properly it is cheaper in bad press. Indeed it can generate good press, if incited the right way. Let those who you control fight your battle for continuing control.
How do you choose to target the weapon of chaos?
Every action has unforeseen consequences. Chaos is a messy weapon. You might incite chaos with precision, but it is a complex cascade to control. It is important to direct this cascade to destinations you control, and/or are insulated from. If things go wrong, it is not an immediate disaster. Continue to feed the chaos till it is directed to your desired solution. If you have been careful to insulate yourself from the results of your chaos, it can go very out of control and still benefit you. At some point even your enemies will need to deal with it. They will grudgingly or even willingly spend resources and time to control it. They will donate resources to help you regain control. You will be seen as a team player. (by those with limited vision.)
To wield chaos requires an acceptable degree of insulation. Keeping in mind that these powers are wielded by those in control, it is not considered completely necessary to shield all of your own citizens/drones from all the negative results. Your citizens/drones need to be controlled too. Distant chaos is a useful weapon in that endeavor. You are concerned with keeping control. Chaos there, will help control here. So you are really concerned with protecting the resources that you require to enforce control. The most basic resources are material. You must always have real, useable destructive force at hand to hold the reigns of initial chaos as well as to be able to weather any uncontrolled catastrophy of chaos that will affect you. A massive military force with stockpiles and minimum resource to continue actual military operations for a calculated amount of time.
You must also surround the possible cascades of chaos with your solutions to it. Others always try to incite or benefit from chaos. The others must be controlled by you. Ideally they are created by you. They are your weapons of chaos, they, or others you control will be your selected solution to chaos. This is the ideal situation. You are currently in control. You have the weapons to incite chaos if control is becoming difficult or chaos is helpful in your endeavors, you control the solutions to chaos, to keep control. The weapon of chaos, and even it’s solution is not directly seen to be triggered and controlled by you.
Why do I see the weapon of chaos being widely deployed at this time? Because the pattern seems to be there. Because the conditions to wield it are optimal for a certain controller. Because a certain controller is in the position of needing to deploy it on a mass scale.
Using chaos is not new. It has been used to control the known world, or just portions of it. It has been used as weapon, country against country and by rulers within their own country, against their citizens/drones.
At this point in time I see four main groups participating in chaos. They are to varying degrees inciting, benefiting from and/or suffering from chaos. It is war.
The United States of America, China, the European Union, Russia. They are are in a state of undeclared war.
Russia is in a wait and see entrenchment. Relying on resource wealth and a history that allows it to keep it’s citizen/drones reasonably calm with minimum effort. Russia derives economic resource from two other combatants, The EU and China, by supplying material resources. Russia does not currently require the massive use of chaos as a weapon. In fact it benefits somewhat by being a stable supply during chaos. It also uses it’s still considerable back stop of military resources to modify some aspects of chaos. Russia through it’s historical and current intelligence endeavors still has a network of cascade backup plans in place.
China is currently selling vast amounts of rope to capitalists in the hope they will indeed hang themselves. The rope is being bought on credit. This orgy of selling has put China in a weak position regarding material resources. China needs to expend foreign sourced resources to fight it’s war. China is building a weapon of economic chaos, but is vulnerable to external chaos while it does this. Internal uncontrolled chaos is building. China is changing internally faster than those in control can manage. Indeed, the ones in control are changing too.
The E.U. is terribly exposed to economic and material resource chaos. It’s strength is it’s union. This is under attack with chaos. Chaos targeted to disrupt external sources of resources and it’s internal economic system. It is desired that the EU ceases to be a union and reverts back to separate states without common cause and strength. Chaos will then be targeted at each weaker individual state.
The United States of America.
It just seems obvious to me that the U.S. is currently unleashing the weapons of chaos on a wide scale.
A number of U.S. puppets seem to have succumbed to chaos in recent times. Many of them are major deposits of energy resources. In these times of chaos the US seems intent on destroying infrastructure. It is done very well. Water systems, power systems, governmental systems are targeted and thoroughly destroyed at the very outset of the chaos. Military systems seem to collapse with hardly a battle of any sizable scale. No military force in these countries has a chance of putting up more than a momentary battle against US forces. The military forces of these countries surrender almost instantly. Why then destroy the infrastructure? To ensure the virtual surrender and control of the citizens. The citizens now depend on the victors for the necessities of life. The victors rule. The victor controls and can appear or at least brag to be saving and serving the citizens. In the aftermath of chaos in energy producing countries, it seems the energy export systems are the least destroyed infrastructure. But the ownership, and control of the resources are the first order of reconstruction. Control and contracts being shifted to U.S. concerns as soon as possible.
Resource chaos attacks China most immediately. Best case scenario is that China ends up buying all it’s resources from the U.S. or it’s puppets, while the U.S. can continue to use China to supply cheap goods and over extend itself on U.S. controlled over extended credit. Chaos also attacks the EU by raising costs to it, while enriching the U.S. Hopefully the EU will break up into chaotic easily controllable chunks again. Russia will have a less profitable market for it’s energy resources.
Economic and resource chaos all round.
Those in power feel they are sufficiently insulated from and enriched from chaos. While they profit from it, the rest of us suffer and die in it.
I read today that Syria seems about to get it’s full measure of chaos. Will this engulf Iran, Israel and Saudi Arabia as well?
Fortress America will seem peaceful and stable by any comparisons. To those in power.
I am getting annoyed with a certain social networking system. It seems far more of a business than a social network system. It is not evolving socially, but in specific directions that seem intended to herd the society and spy on it. Other social networks also seem to tend to this outcome.
It occurred to me that there might be a way to actually have a social network in the hands of the society of it’s users. I am not sure if the method is possible, but here is the idea.
There are many entities on the web that ask us to donate our computer’s idle time to running background programs to help them solve various problems. Most of the time your computer is actually doing nothing. During this time a background program can be helping to do amazing things. The many millions of computers running can devote a small amount of their idle time to solving problems that a super computer alone cannot solve in a reasonable time. What if some slices of idle time could be devoted to hosting and running a social networking system?
I am somewhat computer literate. In the past I was tempted to program as a vocation. I did program from machine language to C and various Basic languages. I went to the electronics hardware side instead. So I know a little of what I propose, but I am not sure it is possible as I envision it.
I desire a social network that is owned and hosted by the society that uses it. A distributed social network that runs in the background of millions of idle CPUs. The code written by those heroes that take such delite in the pure pleasure of creation, the Open Source Community. Maybe this network already exists? The pace of innovation and creation in the cyber world can escape me entirely in so many facets. Please inform me if I have missed this. And if it does exist, those who know of it, please loudly sing it’s praise. Money talks like thunder and so often drowns out what is free.
Is it possible? The data would reside on millions of computers all over the world. Of course it would be too tempting for people to dig around in that data and maybe edit it, hack it. The system would need encryption and redundancy. The data on any particular pc would need to be a black hole to that user, but be able to decrypt out onto the active network. It would need to be copied all over the network so as to be available at all times. Of course your piece of it would be available to edit and update as you wish.
The real bonus of such a system is that it would evolve with the users desires, not the owners. The features would arrive as fast as the vast open Open Source world would produce them. The features would be completely up to the users to choose. The features would not be driven by profit or an individuals desires, ideals and ideas. It would be truly free. It would not have to rent space on servers. It would not require profit to exist and grow. It would not evolve to the demands of profit. The information could of course be mined for profit, but it would be harder to do. The information would not be held in a big pot that the owner can sell, it would have to be gleaned live from the users active sites. The gold mine of data would be encrypted and distributed.
The features would not be forced upon the users. The features aspects would not be muddied and hard to turn off. They would be offered, not installed by default. They would be clear. Their repercussions clear.
It might also be more secure from censure and muffling by the powers that be. The system would not be provided from one or a few servers or IP providers. It would be as widespread and free as it’s users.
Could it be? Is it there now?
The riots in Britain might have had a killing by police as a trigger, but they were ready to go for many reasons.
Day after day people see governments and giant corporations collude to allow society to crumble while profiting in cash and power. Profits and perks are up for all but the working class and poor. Whatever mistakes the politicians and business elite make, the losses are made up by the taxes. Of which the rich pay ever less, but benefit from ever more.
Governments seem to have no real interest in the voter the taxpayer the wage slave. It is interesting to see the advances made in weapons to control crowds and rioters. To spy on the citizens. To track the moods and doings of the masses. But nothing is done to improve their lot. When the average citizen gets fed up and boils over an impressive amount of technology and force is there to apprehend them. Speedy trips to the cells. But those who steal and embezzle millions, billions and even trillions are beyond the law. They get bonuses.
The absolutely, obviously failed ideas of free trade, deregulation, off-shoring are trotted out again and again as solutions. With every implementation of these idiotic ideas, things get worse. It is obvious who benefits. It is obvious who holds the reins of power.
As riots become more common in every country, the riots will be portrayed as the problem. Not as a result of the problems that are not being dealt with. As usual the military will be called in. War. Another solution that is always seeming to fail, will be tried again. War on ones own citizens. War to protect the assets of the rich. Waged by the representatives of the citizens. Paid for by the citizens taxes.
Politicians and the super rich waging war against the citizens, as they also wage war on the modern society, to reduce us all back to serfs. The citizens paying for it. We are going back to the dark ages. The leaders are the ones forcing the reversion.
The fires will rage.
For a while the number of people who owned things increased. Some of those people even managed to pay off the debts and own the paper that said they owned things. The ability to more fully own your things increased. But some people don’t like that trend. They want to own their things and your things. Then they will rent things back to you. Their ideal is to rent everything that you need and want to you. With the profit, they will attempt to turn even more people into renters.
Renting out things to people is great. They pay the bills, you take the profit. They will pay for you to own more things to rent to more people to make more profit. After a while you can do nothing but collect rent and pay other renters to run the business of making more people renters.
Some renters still think they are owners. They think a mortgage or a car loan is owning something. I have a mortgage. It will be paid off in about 30 plus years. I am fifty four years old. I am a renter. Maybe you are younger than me. Maybe you see your mortgage being paid off before retirement age. Maybe you see your situation from now to then as stable or even improving. Does that really seem likely when you look at how things have been going? Until the last mortgage payment is made, you are a renter. In some cases, if things do not go as planned, you will still be paying the rent on the house you no longer have as well as the rent on the place you are trying to survive in after the bank takes back what they owned all along.
Here is an interesting situation that one could be in. You default on your mortgage, so the bank takes it back. You live in a place where you cannot simply walk away with the house being taken as full collateral. In that case you still might owe the bank after they sell your house in a depressed market for less than the mortgage debt. Maybe you lost the house due to being laid off after another company bought out your employer’s company and you were a victim of streamlining/synergy/etc… So you managed to get a lower paying job, but could not afford the mortgage payments. The bank was not interested in renegotiating. It is quite possible that the same bank that held your mortgage, also lent money to the company that took over your old company. It is even possible that the same bank holds the mortgage on the shitty apartment block that you now rent a place in. Maybe the low wage company you now work at has loans out with that very same bank. It might even be part of the company that took over your old place of work.
You could be paying rent on rent on rent that ultimately goes into one bank vault. This is the wet dream of owners.
Owners don’t like rules, unless they make them. They are now making them all. Countries are no longer owned by citizens. Citizens merely rent. But I get to vote, you say. I have ownership through citizenship. You did, but you did not keep up the payments. Somebody else with a lot of money bought what you did not keep paying for with vigilance. You still pay for the country with taxes, but you are now just a renter. Your rent flows to ever fewer owners. They offer up a few of their renters for you to vote for. They pay their rent by working for the owners. The owners charge them rules. Rules that are to the owners liking, ideology and profit.
These are the big things that have steadily gone from the many owning to the few owning. You would think it might be enough to a few to own so much of the big stuff. No. They want to own every little thing. If not own it outright, then control it to the point that you still can only really rent it.
It is a little amusement to me to see owners befuddle one another when their profit making collides. One owner sells or rents a thing that allows people to possibly sidestep the buying or renting of another owner’s thing. For a time the owners might actually try capitalism and competition as a solution. But soon enough they simply give up, collude and try to make the renters pay more. They will have their elected renters pass rules to ensure the renters to pay more. Owners have realized that capitalism limits profits too much. An ever smaller number of owners collude to screw the renters, all the while waiting for an opportunity to turn a few more of their fellow owners into renters as well. It is getting close to a time of massive bloodshed among the owners. I do hope to see it.
The battle to turn almost everybody into completely indentured renters is almost won. Countries are like giant company towns. The problem for the owners is that the country is not a one company town. Capitalism is not about sharing. Those who continue to rise do so because they are driven by unreasoning greed. The unbridled capitalism that is coming to a head now is lead by an ever smaller group of ever more powerful sociopaths. It is the natural evolution that takes place in capitalism that has tipped over the point of being self or outwardly regulated.
Consider the power and greed being ever more concentrated. When it comes to pass that there are no more easy pickings from the renters, the owners will slip out the daggers and hunt one another. At that point the Borgia clan history will look like a lame soap opera. The whole planet will be in their economic, political and literal crossfire. What could happen? Anything! When people who own and control almost everything decide to war with one another, anything is imaginable. The capitalist evolutionary system breeds those who think they can do no wrong. Breeds those who believe they are supermen. As they destroy more of the world around them in order to own more of the world, they believe that ultimately, enough money and power will leave them untouched and the king of the smoldering ruins. It is worth it to them to own even one last smoldering ruin, as long as nobody else owns anything more.
Maybe it is good to be a renter for a time. It hurts more to lose a thing you own.
Hard to say why the stock market goes up and down. Down, down, down would make sense at this time.
But June might be an interesting time. QE2 is due to end. This could be a serious dent in the market gamblers stake money. As far as I can see the Fed pawn shop has been willing to take trash and give cash. And there is no shortage of trash on balance sheets. Piles of synthetic derivatives that were at best worth nothing if they were highly played, and they were. Certain corporations are sitting on piles of real money, but the “financial” businesses are operating in the land of make believe. It is all on paper, and it is really made of nothing but paper. If it falls apart, the small amount of real assets to back it up, will disappear in moments. So getting real money for infinitely leveraged derivatives is pretty much free money. The Fed pays on all bets. The Fed loans gambling addicts another ante at near zero percent.
But that may be coming to an end. I say maybe, because more free money will likely be made available if things appear to be going the correct direction of down, down, down, once QE2 ends. But if the free money is really ending, what will the gamblers do in June? Likely bet the farm. I can see the markets being a great roller coaster ride. The Fed giving out the last free tickets. Many will have acquired enough real assets that they can then keep on making ridiculous profit by controlling enough of the real assets of the real economy. They will be the only game in town for energy, food, low paying jobs, owner of your debts. What sort of loop around effect will the winners and losers have on the derivatives and assorted trash that they traded to the Fed? Those things being a wild variety of insurances and bets on both winners and losers. So many trillions of imaginary and real dollars bet this way and that. Had the economy ( top ten percent or less of it ) not been bailed out, re bailed out, refinanced for zero interest, given endless gambling stakes, actually shaken out to winners and losers, we would be back to real business. We would still be putting it back together, but we would be doing it from the remains of the real winners and losers. QE1 and QE2 being mostly welfare for the biggest of ” financial ” businesses, has just put off the inevitable. It has also extended the life and power of those businesses that are not the real economy. Allowing them to avoid their rightful demise and instead, given them a bigger slice of it to gamble with in the future.
When/if QE2 and it’s ilk truly end, the real economy will have just become even more unreal. More of the real economy will be in the hands of gamblers with short term gains to their own pockets as their only incentive. But the house may no longer be anteing up for them, covering their losses so they can make another Hail Mary bet. And all the while the derivatives have not been reigned in. QE has only put off the inevitable. Only made it worse. Put more of the losing bets on the average citizens back. Their backs are broken. I am surprised by the lack of demonstration or riot. The average citizen is showing an amazing level of truly blind faith and/or ignorance in the powers that be. But for how much longer? All the bets are on the average citizen coming through with another dollar to spend for ever less in return. Another borrowed dollar.
The future for some time seems devoid of money. The future is debt. The economy collapsed with a very obvious lack of debt collapse for the average citizen. The top percentiles of wealth had bad bets and bad debts taken care of, courtesy of the lower percentiles who bet on buying a home, keeping their jobs, having a government for “for the people”. Suckers.
So the QE’s did little if anything good and much bad. Now they are supposed to end. Will they? Can the Fed and government really get the guts to let what they have left of real capitalism do it’s thing? They have helped prolong false markets and perverted capitalism even more than before the crash. I see it as citizens money being used to extend a bridge ever further out from the cliff. Unfortunately, there never was never another side to bridge to. Nobody stopped marching right up to the end of the bridge, nobody forced them back. The bridge just kept getting further out over the abyss. The majority of people stand back on solid ground, forced to pay to build the bridge to nowhere, wondering how much more of the ground will be pulled out from under them when it collapses.
The markets in June? Much ado about nothing. Less than nothing. The top percentiles will make their last ( maybe ) bets with free Fed/taxpayer money. Up? Down? Who the hell knows? The bets will come from all sides. The derivatives and asset-less insurance policies, shorts, will abound. As they did before the abyss. Maybe a QE3 will appear. Will it matter? It depends on the gullibility and patience of the average citizen. That is the big bet. How much further can the life of the average citizen be stretched out of shape? How much longer can they believe in capitalism that has become a fantasy? How many more years of debt that no longer even buys reward but mearly gets them by as they spiral ever downward, will the average person take onto their shoulders? The consumer is the economy. The consumer is broke. In debt. Behind in payments. The Fed and the government garnishee their wages to keep the top percentiles ever growing in wealth on the lower percentiles increasing debt. The Fed and government have become the repo men, they take from all to pay the few. If you do not want to pay, even if you personally do not owe, they will break your legs. There is little left to the consumer to give to any supposed winners in the market casino. If capitalism is not allowed to run it’s real course, then the government will continue to just take directly from the average citizen, to pay to the obscenely rich. You have no choice. Well I guess you might have some choice, after all the saying about what is inevitable includes both taxes and death.
What the market does after QE2 ends is meaningless. As QE1 and 2 had little to do with the real economy or markets. The average citizen is ticking away. If capitalism is allowed to continue to use government to distort economic reality and extort the citizen/consumer, then it is definitely the citizen who will eventually set things back to reality. Either by just going completely broke, so broke that even gigantic long term debt is exhausted as fake money, or exploding. Citizens have lost their ability and even their right to not buy into, pay into this fake perverted capitalism. They are enslaved. Like the song says, When you got nothin left, you got nothin to lose. Only the small top percentile will have much to lose. Only those in government who repo’d for them will have much to lose.
I thought that I had met my father once in my life. My parents split up before I was born and I lived with my mother. At around age six I came home after school and there was a man and his dog in the apartment. He was sitting on the couch chatting with mom. All I really remember was the dog. I patted it for a bit then asked if I could go out and play. Mom said sure. Much later I returned. Mom then told me that it was my father who had been there. I was six. I can’t really remember what I thought or felt at the time. Life had already been full of strange events. Later, older, I felt resentment, but never mentioned it. I was very, very young when I adopted the philosophy of, shit happens, cause a lot of shit had already happened. It was a nice dog.
Very much later and very much older I found out that the father on my birth certificate was not my biological father, but he was okay with being the one named. I never told my mother that I found out about that. I never inquired as to who my “real” father was. Neither one had ever been involved in my life for more than ten minutes total. And decades more shit had happened. I still don’t know which one was sitting on the couch that day. The biological or the on paper one. No matter.
So who is my father?
None of the boyfriends that floated in and out of my mother’s life. They were hardly noticed. Most of them were okay. A lot of them offered some interesting variety in life. Some experiences that were rare for a kid to have. But none of them personally really made a difference in my mind, changed my mind, added to my character. They were scenery. The experiences had effect, the men did not.
The men who had any hand in shaping my mind, my ideals and ideas were those I never personally met.
I made contact with their ideas and accomplishments. Through those things they helped shape who I am. My fathers are varied. They were men of imagination, intelligence and compassion. Sometimes they excelled in all those things. Science, art, social leadership.
Albert Einstein, and many scientists. Imagination, intelligence, curiosity. Einstein was the first that I knew of, due to his mainstream fame. Then I came to know more of him in his non science aspects.
John F. Kennedy. I remember the day. Black and white TV news coverage. The slow drum beat. It was much later that I found out what was lost. Yes there were faults. So many of his ideals died a slow death after his passing. I hope I keep the best of them alive in me.
Isaac Asimov. And some other science/social fiction writers. Asimov wrote of sensational futures in such a gentle fashion. His good guys did not need muscle and violence. Even his bad guys seemed just misguided rather than evil. Intelligence and morality would win out. Very few people know of Asimov”s great treasure trove of factual writing. To read all of his fact based books is an education of great breadth and value.
John K Brunner. Another writer. He prepared me for the future by foretelling it. Arthur C Clarke fortold more the technology. Brunner saw the tangle of technology, society, and human failings that lay in the future. A future I am now in and is still unfolding.
David Gerrold. Special mention to this writer. I was about twelve or thirteen when I stumbled upon the little novel, The Man Who Folded Himself. It is on the surface a story about time travel. But it is obviously and wonderfully about traveling the infinite possibilities of what people are and can be. And being able to accept what you and others are.
John Lennon. And of course so many other musical artists across the decades and right up to this minute. They manage to speak hopes and truths that don’t just pass in a speech or bound in a book that you might never read. They can make these ideas into the background of your life. Shouting at times, continuing to whisper in everyone’s ears over decades.
Pierre Elliot Trudeau. I grew up with this man leading my country. He did lead. He lead with intelligence, imagination, compassion and such a deep pride and love for this country. I measure those who deem themselves leaders against him and find most to be sorely lacking. I wish that we had been up to the task he wished us to join in with him. A majority of us took offense when he literally gave us the finger. We deserved it, and did not rise to the challenge.
So many others…..
I know what a huge influence a father that is there can have in ones life. For good and bad. Those who have or had good fathers are blessed. If you can, give them a hug and tell them you love them on Father’s day and any other day. On Father’s day I think about all my fathers I never met. Thank you gentlemen. I am so much of what you taught me.
“We are concerned by the effect that this strike will have on our economic recovery, which is still fragile, and on Canadians in general,” Labour Minister Lisa Raitt said Tuesday.
3,200 airport customer-service agents and 600 call-centre staff at Air Canada have been on strike for less than a week and the government is already to pass back to work legislation. The labour minister, not the finance minister made the above comment. The Harper government is so concerned that these people are the keystone of the Canadian economy that they must pass a new law to force them back to work. The Harper governement is terribly worried about the deficit. Even this labour tiff might topple us. But of course, the corporations sitting on record amounts of cash, not doing anything useful for the economy with it, will still get their tax cut. I suppose that Air Canada is one of those corporations. So Air Canada gets some free money from the government. But they will not give any of that to those workers. The government that is deciding to give Air Canada that tax break ( free money ) will force the workers back on to the job for Air Canada. Those workers will then have the pleasure of maybe paying more taxes, and/or suffering from cuts to the government services that they support with their taxes. Services that will be payed for less by Air Canada taxes.
The corporation, Air Canada will receive another tax break courtesy of the government that will also force their employees back to work for them.
You see inconveniencing some air travelers, while some workers resort to legal labour actions might destroy this fragile economy. But giving very profitable corporations billions in tax cuts is good for the economy and country.
I haven’t written a thousand words here. But the picture that would tell this story is perfectly clear in my mind. 3800 workers bent over and held by the government while Air Canada gives it to them up the ass, and the rest of the not rich, millions of Canadian wage slaves bent over with a full line of corporate pricks doing the same to them. And Mr Harper watching proudly, breathing a sigh of relief that Canada under his leadership is now on the right track.
