Time for Churches to “Render Unto Caesar” the Taxes they Should be Paying

Crystal Cathedral

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

The government is looking for ways to find additional revenue. They talk of cutting back and maybe even eventually eliminating public entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

But there is a lot of additional ways to fight the deficit without resorting to destroying needed social programs.

We can end the terror wars draining the Treasury of trillions of dollars. We can initiate a fair tax on the super elite. We can initiate a Tobin Tax on Wall Street financial transactions. We can also make Churches not only talk the talk, but walk the walk when it comes to charitable donations.

We all know that Churches are fine institutions that want to help their fellow man. So these fine institutions shouldn’t mind losing their federal tax exemptions. They could help support their fellow man by giving something to Uncle Sam.

Now not all Churches are as fraudulent as the one below appears to be.

Los Angeles Times, Federal Bankruptcy Officials Question Crystal Cathedral Compensation:…Crystal Cathedral, the Orange County mega-church that filed for bankruptcy last month, allowed its chief financial officer to skirt federal income taxes by paying the bulk of his salary in the form of a housing allowance, a benefit reserved under law for ministers.

The six-figure housing allowance paid to financial officer Fred Southard -– along with compensation to members of the church founder’s family –- are among the expenses questioned by the U.S. trustee’s office and the creditors’ committee assessing the bankruptcy case. …

The Crystal Cathedral has cited the weak economy and a 24% drop in donations in 2009 for its financial problems. More than 550 creditors are owed $50 million to $100 million, according to the initial bankruptcy filing last month….(posted at tax prof blog)

I am sure some Churches really want to help the people in this country.

So we should help them do the right thing. The people should demand that the Churches pay their fair share.

When asked about paying taxes, Jesus said that we should “render unto Caesar” that which is Caesars. This means that people should pay their taxes. It also means that the Churches should be rendering unto Caesar that which is Caesars. Or the Churches should also be paying taxes.

But the Churches shouldn’t mind too much. It all seemingly goes to a good cause. Now half of their tax money will go to support a war machine. But let’s forget about that. The other half will go to things like sustaining a nation and paying off debts to rich banksters.

But evidently more revenue is needed in this tough economy. So if we don’t want to make the rich pay their fair share, let’s at least make the Churches give something to Caesar.

Obama’s Deficit Reduction Commission: ‘Let Them Eat Ol’ Roy’

Loodie's a Star!Image by djwudi via Flickr

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

So the news is that President Obama’s Bipartisan Commission to reduce the deficit have come out with their findings.

As predicted by yours truly, the main idea is to slash Social Security and to raise the retirement age. Oh, and they want to drastically cut Medicare benefits too.

I guess the power elite won’t be happy until the elderly have to live on Ol’ Roy Dog Food. The good news is that there should be plenty of it available at the nearest Wal-Mart.

No Matter Which Party Wins in November, They Are Coming After Social Security

…The co-chairmen proposed a $3.8 trillion deficit-cutting plan yesterday that would trim Social Security and Medicare, reduce income-tax rates and eliminate tax breaks including the mortgage-interest deduction….

…The Social Security retirement age would rise to 68 in about 2050 and 69 in about 2075….
…John Rother, executive vice president for policy at the senior citizens’ group AARP, said his group would oppose the plan because it would be “dramatically lowering benefits over time” in Social Security and Medicare….(source: bloomberg.com)

So the fix was in from the moment Obama set up this pretend Commission to look for answers to reduce the deficit.

Here’s a plan to reduce the deficit.

It will take the country back from the banksters and you won’t need some phony Commission to tell you that you have to cut Social Security and Medicare.

The Plan:

Stop funding multi-trillion dollar wars, institute a Tobin Tax on financial transactions, tax the rich, end corporate welfare and billion dollar tax breaks, stop bailing out financial institutions and instead nationalize them, end the Fed and have the government print their own money debt free, and build a strong tax paying labor force by implementing tariffs against products made from sweat shop labor.

Simple

But wait, what about Social Security? Isn’t it about ready to go bankrupt?

Nope that is the Big Lie they want you to believe as they condition you to subsist on dog food.

The truth is, as I have written before:

…Social Security is funded by payroll taxes and will be solvent for the next 20 or 30 years even if nothing is done to help the program survive. In fact, Social Security would be in perfect shape if it wasn’t for the government taking those resources away from the System to fund the government…. (source: bodhi thunder)

As President Bush has recently said:

….Former President George W. Bush signaled on Thursday that he sees not reforming Social Security as his greatest failure from the eight years he served in the White House, the Chicago Tribune reports. In 2005, the president unsuccessfully tried to partially privatize Social Security….(source: huffington post)

He failed.

But the good news is, as I predicted, President Obama is going to pick up where George W. Bush left off.

That means the elderly will ultimately have to develop a taste for Ol’ Roy

Violent British Protests as Nightmare Unfolds

Let’s face it. From Greece to Britain and many places in between, the people have had enough.

They are taking to the streets.

But guess what?

This is likely just the beginning.

As the world economy continues to slide and as the Big Banks clearly emerge as the owners of the world, the people will continue to take action.

Hopelessness and despair are the conditions necessary for mass unrest. Most people realize that voting is an exercise in futility. That financial interests control the governments of the West. They don’t see alternatives.

So look for more of the same.

You will find that the big financial institutions will continue to grow fat off the credit serfs that they call consumers. You will also continue to find that the people will increase in their anger.

This is all a combustible situation. It is like putting a lit match near a pool of gasoline. The outcome is pretty certain.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Although it will probably be that way.

The elite of the world could share just a bit of their wealth instead of robbing the people. The people could be given a real voice in their governments. I know it is a dream.

But what we are about to see unfold is a nightmare.

Jesus Would Be a Socialist

Jesus casting out the money changers at the templeImage via Wikipedia

….When I was a very small boy in the United Kingdom, I used to see on the side of the front door of the church a sign that said Wednesday night is social night. I asked my mom what was a social night. She said it was a night where many of the people in the village met in the Sunday school room and carried food for the people to have a get together, meet old friends and get to know one another better and get friendly.

I have been called a fool for saying socialism is a friendly act, for people to help each other. Social medicine for all people, whether they have any money or not, could not be anything else but friendly to each other person who can’t afford to buy health insurance. The government is responsible to protect the people during war. I think the people should be under government protection when they become sick. Many people can’t afford health insurance. What do we do, let them wither away and die? “Love thy neighbor as thyself” must be some kind of a joke…(source: godanriver.com)

Contrary to what many Fundamentalist Christians today think. Jesus thought the poor and the less fortunate should be helped. He advocated that people go and sell their possessions and follow him. He didn’t think the rich were going to find it easy to get into heaven.

As you might recall, he threw out the money changers. Today the money changers run our government. Not only that, the money changers believe that Socialism for themselves is the only good Socialism.

But Jesus would have wanted to see everybody in society benefit. He would have wanted to see a Socialist society. After all, he had this Socialist idea called the “Golden Rule.” That means that we should care for others as we do ourselves.

In fact, the early Christians were Socialist. They conducted their communities on the basis of caring and sharing.

Yep, Jesus would be a Socialist. I am sure of it.

President Bush admires President Obama for making more war.

…In the book, which is released on Tuesday, Mr Bush has praised the current president for standing up to critics and deploying more troops in a new commitment to counterinsurgency in Afghanistan.

Mr Bush writes: “I strongly believe the mission is worth the cost. Fortunately, I am not the only one.” (source: big news network)

Bush, like the other Neocons love war as long as they don’t have to fight in it. But there is the other side of the coin.

President Obama like the other Neolibs love war too and they don’t fight in them either.

Bush also is likely overjoyed with President Obama’s economic policy that has given the corporate and financial elites near total control of the government resources and wealth.

In fact, Bush doesn’t even have to be President. However, he can just enjoy himself and watch the unfolding of his third term.

Bush gets to go golfing and hang with his elite friends while President Obama enacts his policies.

Nice!

MSNBC Parent Company Gave Millions to Buy Elections–Olbermann Remains Suspended

Classic General Electric neon sign, in Willaco...Image via Wikipedia

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

The hypocracy of the Keith Olbermann suspension is almost unbelievable.

As I pointed out, corporations now have unlimited potential to buy elections with the resent Supreme Court decision. The owners of these news organizations, like General Electric, are not constricted in their vote buying.

…However, as reported by media watchdog, Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR), it appears that MSNBC’s parent company, General Electric (GE) along with potential new owner Comcast, both violated the company’s “news policy and standards” by each donating millions of dollars in campaign contributions. In a statement, FAIR pointed to Center for Responsive Politics data, showing that GE made over $2 million in political contributions during the 2010 election cycle alone. In addition, GE spent over $30 million on lobbyists during the same election cycle and gave over $400,000 to Democratic and Republican governors since last year….(source: examiner.com)

But Keith Olbermann, unlike corporate persons, cannot even donate to a candidate. This MSNBC policy is in clear violation of Olbermann’s rights as a citizen.

But what is important here is that MSNBC maintain a facade of objectivity when it is clearly a fraudulent news organization run by massive corporate power and in the interests of that power.

Tens of Thousands Protest G-20 Summit in Seoul

Bodhi Thunder

People all over the world love the New World Order also known as Globalization. It has made the world so much more wealthier and happier.

…Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Seoul on Sunday in a largely peaceful protest against this week’s G20 summit as the city went on heightened alert for the meeting of world leaders….

….South Korea’s armed forces are on a “Level 3″ alert, the highest level, and some 50,000 police — more than one-third of the national force — launched increased patrols from Saturday.(source: reuters)

The big lie that is regularly sold in this country is that Globalization has been so good for the world. In fact, the people of the world are not getting any wealthier and there are still about a billion that are starving.

Globalization has destroyed the United States.

Some might argue that the destruction of the US economy is worth it because it has helped the poor of the world. But Globalization has created a slave class of factory workers in developing countries and has contributed to the growing number of poor in slums that populate the world’s cities.

In truth, Globalization has only been good for the few elite that run the world. That is all we can say about it.

Banks In Serious Trouble: The Fed’s Quantitative Easing another Trillion Dollar Bank Bail Out

In 1935, Cret designed the Seal of the Board o...Image via Wikipedia

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Folks the banks are in deep trouble again and it is now time for more trillions of your dollars to bail them out. It’s another bankster bailout just as many of us in the alternative press had predicted.

Not only are the small banks failing in record number. The big ones, like Bank of America, are in trouble again.

…Now the bank may be on the verge of trouble again. Its stock has fallen 41 percent since April 15. Mortgage-bond investors are demanding untold billions of dollars in refunds. The foreclosure fiasco is metastasizing. A member of the Troubled Asset Relief Program’s oversight panel, AFL-CIO attorney Damon Silvers, openly worried at a hearing last week about the risk that Bank of America might need another bailout….(bloomberg.com)

So the Federal Reserve has engineered a sneaky trillion dollar bailout plan called Quantitative Easing. The plan is to purchase trillion(s) in Tressuries and is ultimately aimed at pumping more cash into the banking system.

Other countries don’t like it because it will seriously devalue the dollar which will destabilize world markets.

…Bernanke came under fire yesterday from officials in Germany, China, and Brazil, who said his plan to pump cash into the banking system may jar other economies and fail to fuel U.S….(source: bloomberg.com)

But Bernanke says he is only concerned about making sure the banks have more money so that they will begin to loan that money to the American people to get the economy moving again.

Where have we heard this Bullsh– before?

You might recall the last bail out went directly to the banks so they wouldn’t foreclose on troubled homes and the banks would have money to lend out to fuel a recovery.

The banks didn’t lend out the money, and there was only a recovery for the super rich.

The managed media is reporting that the new bank bail out will be much smaller than the other bank bail outs.

…The program is smaller than what Fed policymakers called their “shock and awe” approach to fighting the 2008 financial crisis. At that time, the Fed bought $1.7 trillion worth of securities. This new program, including money that the Fed plans to reinvest from the portfolio of mortgages it has bought, should ultimately total $850 billion to $900 billion.

The Fed’s balance sheet, a measure of all its total holdings and investments, has ballooned to $2.3 trillion, nearly triple what it was at the end of 2007, when the economy slid into recession….(source: jacksonville.com)

But the new bank bailout will likely cost trillions too.

…Goldman Sachs anticipates that the real cost of the second round of quantitative easing will be in excess of $2 trillion and will continue well into 2012, while other prominent economists have denounced the Fed’s actions….(source: info wars.com)

Presently the economy is acting like a depression because it is a depression. The true unemployment rate is over 20% and we are experiencing deflation. But the Federal Reserve plans to only make the problem worse by giving the banks more money which will fuel inflation and destroy the dollar.

The newest bank bail out will do nothing but make the economy worse for the average American.

But it will save the banks until the next bail out and that is all that matters.

In the meantime the sheeple worry about government spending while the banks are stealing more trillions from them in the name of a “recovery.”

Rep. Alan Grayson on Why the Democrats Lost Big

Florida congressman Alan Grayson.Image via Wikipedia

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson of Florida’s 8th District is out of a job and he knows why.

Oh it is not anything he did.

He stood up for the American people to try to get real health care legislation passed, and he tried to pass “The War is Making You Poor Act.” Unfortunately he was in a Party that didn’t stand up for the 99% of Americans that are being ripped off by banksterism and corporatism.

Grayson clearly sees that the recent election was not for Tea Party Republicanism, but it was against the fraud that is the Obama Administration and much of the Democratic Party.

“…I think it’s because the Democratic leadership has failed to deliver to core constituents of the Democratic Party the thing that the Democrats wanted when the Democrats had sixty votes in the Senate, 59 percent of the House, and control of the White House. That’s my view of it. We didn’t vote on the Employee Free Choice Act. We didn’t vote on immigration reform. And we controlled the agenda. This isn’t a situation where we had votes and loss them in the House or the Senate. We simply didn’t bring up these matters of crucial importance to various elements of the Democratic coalition, when we had complete control of the agenda and enough votes to pass anything….“(source: democracy now)

For selling out the American people, the Independents and Democrats stayed home on election day.

“….Well, my defeat was part of a wave across the country that had Republicans winning because Democrats didn’t vote. We have the results from the pre-election turnout; we don’t have the results from the Election Day turnout yet. In my district, when you compare that to 2008, the Republican turnout in the early voting was down by 20 percent, and the Democratic turnout in early voting was down by 60 percent. And that wasn’t true just in my district; that was true all around Florida and pretty much the whole country, except for the West Coast and New England. And as a result of that, virtually every Democrat who won in 2008 by less than ten points loss this year. There was only one exception out of twenty-four. And there were forty-four more Democrats who won by more than ten points in 2008 who managed to lose this year, because their Democratic voters didn’t turn up. It’s not a situation where Democrats—Democratic voters decided to vote Republican; it’ a situation where Democratic voters didn’t vote. And when Democrats don’t vote, Democrats can’t win….“(source)

So now the Democrats will claim that they have sold what is left of America to banksterism and corporatism because the Republicans are back in the House. Then they will expect a vote for their treason come the next election.

But both Parties play a game with the American people.

The Republicrats sell the people out to globalists and the financial elite and they blame each other for doing it. Every election cycle the American people fall for it, and they choose from one of the arms of the banksters, thinking that this tool of corporatism will be better than the other tool of corporatism.

It is a giant game and the American people love playing it.

Corporations are People But Keith Olbermann is Evidently Not a Person

Cropped headshot of Keith OlbermannImage via Wikipedia

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

I guess it works like this.

If you a corporation you are a person entitled to do anything. You can lie, cheat, steal, injure, kill, and spend unlimited amounts of money by hiding behind some fake political organizations to buy elections.

Yet if you are Keith Olbermann, a progressive talk show host on MSNBC, you can’t donate to 3 political candidates. If you do, then you will be indefinitely suspended without pay. That is exactly what happened.
.

..Keith Olbermann, MSNBC’s primetime firebrand host, has been suspended indefinitely for violating the ethics policies of his employer earlier this year when he donated to three Democrats seeking federal office, MSNBC announced Friday….(source: cnn)

But wait, Olbermann is a political commentator with clear progressive views and that means that if he donates to certain Democratic politicians he will lose his objectivity.

That makes a lot of sense.

Corporations on the other hand hide behind vast amounts of wealth to buy elections and that makes them more of a person than Olbermann.

Corporate persons get to do anything precisely because they are special people in this country. Olbermann can’t exercise his rights as a citizen to privately donate to 3 politicians because he is not able to act as a person.

It seems to me that MSNBC is a corporation which is a person, and Olberman is a human being that is not a person. Therefore MSNBC can spend an unlimited amount to help buy elections, but Olbermann can’t donate anything in support of a candidate.

So if Olbermann is not able to exercise his constitutional right and donate money to a few candidates because of some objectivity nonsense. Then MSNBC shouldn’t be able to buy elections because they are in the news business and that is not objective.

But we must keep in mind that MSNBC is a person entitled to do what it likes. Olbermann is a human being that is not a person, and has only the rights given to him by that MSNBC person.

All of this makes perfect sense.

Go back to sleep.
