The civilized world should immediately implement a boycott against Israel for their heinous crimes against humanity. The recent murdering of those innocents on the Gaza Aid ship is just one more example.

In addition, the United States should stop funding Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Israel has Cost US Taxpayer’s 1.6 Trillion since 1973

Boycott Apartheid IsraelImage by bismikaallahuma via Flickr

Israel is a nation-state that wouldn’t exist without the US economic and military support. This small nation of only 7 or 8 million is a huge expense for the United States.

So what does the US get in return?

A debt of nearly $6,000 per person in the United States. But this expense is only figured since 1973 and doesn’t likely include the true economic costs of supporting Israel that remain hidden.

But it’s only money.

More importantly, Americans get the shame and enmity of the world for supporting war crimes and the apartheid regime of Israel.

Americans need to move beyond the propaganda and the religious mind control of ‘God’s Chosen people‘ and demand accountability for their money. No people are ‘God’s Chosen’ and no people should be allowed to commit atrocities and violate UN mandates under the protection of the US.

Economist tallies swelling cost of Israel to US

Source: Christian Science Monitor

Since 1973, Israel has cost the United States about $1.6 trillion. If divided by today’s population, that is more than $5,700 per person.

This is an estimate by Thomas Stauffer, a consulting economist in Washington. For decades, his analyses of the Middle East scene have made him a frequent thorn in the side of the Israel lobby.

For the first time in many years, Mr. Stauffer has tallied the total cost to the US of its backing of Israel in its drawn-out, violent dispute with the Palestinians. So far, he figures, the bill adds up to more than twice the cost of the Vietnam War.

And now Israel wants more. In a meeting at the White House late last month, Israeli officials made a pitch for $4 billion in additional military aid to defray the rising costs of dealing with the intifada and suicide bombings. They also asked for more than $8 billion in loan guarantees to help the country’s recession-bound economy.

Considering Israel’s deep economic troubles, Stauffer doubts the Israel bonds covered by the loan guarantees will ever be repaid. The bonds are likely to be structured so they don’t pay interest until they reach maturity. If Stauffer is right, the US would end up paying both principal and interest, perhaps 10 years out…..MORE

All War is a Crime and There are No “Good Wars”

Picture of graves decorated with flags at Arli...Image via Wikipedia

This is something I wrote awhile back. I am posting it again in honor of the fallen of war. That someday brave soldiers will not be used in senseless wars. That humanity can rise above the hatred, the lies, and the greed that fuels all wars. That the brave of humanity, like soldiers, can be used to help humanity in heroic actions to save lives rather than to destroy and to kill.

All beings tremble before danger, all fear death. When a man considers this, he does not kill or cause to kill.

Bodhi Thunder

It is strange how humanity has been conditioned to accept the idea that there are only certain acts of war that are criminal. When in fact, the act of war is itself is a crime.

Now some may argue that there are good wars and therefore it is important that we accept the term “war crime” to acknowledge the claim that certain acts of state sponsored killing are needed and other acts are too horrific. They usually point to World War 2 as being a good war because ultimately it brought down that mad man Hitler.

The “good war” argument has been used to justify the killing and maiming of tens of millions of people since World War 2. The good war paradigm has brought us the Cold War, the Korean War, Vietnam, the endless wars south of our border, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan. The good war argument is also used around the world to justify the mass killing of people for the sake of humanity.

But war is inhumane and that is all there is to it. Now the fact that a government sanctions the killing of millions doesn’t make it a good war.

But what about World War 2, wasn’t that a necessary war?

In the case of Germany, the war didn’t just spring from a mad man’s mind. But it had it roots in another event of economic “disaster capitalism” called the Great Depression and a punitive Treaty of Versailles leveled against the Germans by the Allied powers. It is not too surprising that a suffering German people would lose their heads and abandon humane principles in an effort to find a solution. Still Hitler never had more than 37% of support among the German people in honest elections. The real support that Hitler had came from corporations in Germany and around the world. Germany was a monster created from disaster capitalism and the leaders of that system. When we look at the rise of fascism in Italy we see similar forces at work.

But what about the Japanese and their attack on Pearl Harbor?

Japan was a colonial power and that was something it learned from Europe. Still, even after a US steel and oil embargo that was crippling the island:

….Prime Minister Konoye called in Ambassador Joseph Grew and secretly offered to meet FDR in Juneau or anywhere in the Pacific. According to Grew, Konoye was willing to give up Indochina and China, except a buffer region in the north to protect her from Stalin, in return for the U.S. brokering a peace with China and opening up the oil pipeline. Konoye told Grew that Emperor Hirohito knew of his initiative and was ready to give the order for Japan’s retreat.

Fearful of a “second Munich,” America spurned the offer. Konoye fell from power and was replaced by Hideki Tojo. Still, war was not inevitable. U.S. diplomats prepared to offer Japan a “modus vivendi.” If Japan withdrew from southern Indochina, the United States would partially lift the oil embargo. But Chiang Kai-shek became “hysterical,” and his American adviser, one Owen Lattimore, intervened to abort the proposal….From the American Cause, Founder Patrick Buchanon

So Japan chose to attack the United States rather than face a brutal economic end to empire from a US oil embargo.

As we can see, if we decide to look with open eyes, wars don’t just arise from nothing or even the mind of a mad man. Even if we examine supposedly good wars, we see that they arise from acts of injustice, dehumanization, and intransigence from all sides. Wars have roots and if we were to strike at the roots we could avoid even supposedly “good wars.”

The truth about war is much as the Nazi General Hermann Goering Declared it.

“Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. quote verified at snopes.com

As long as people believe in “good wars” then they will be doomed to face the evils of war. There are no good wars and all war is a crime. Unless most of the world’s population begin to look at war itself as a crime against humanity, we will be doomed to continue in an endless round of wars for good causes.

Today, Americans are once again being fed a heavy dose of lies that we have finally gotten it right. We are now fighting the good war. All of the past wars, except for World War 2, were not the really good wars. But now Americans and our European allies have finally found a war that we know is good.

How do we know it is good?

Well we have a new President. He proclaims to be a man of the people and he is telling us that we finally have the right war.

But in the end, our Afghanistan war will be like all of the rest. Just a vicious killing spree that will cause a great deal of suffering to a large number of people. It won’t be a good war for the people because there is no such thing as a good war. There won’t be some incidences of war crimes because all war is a crime.

This Afghanistan war will, however, continue grow vast fortunes and increase power for a very few war profiteers that actually run much of the world. That makes it a good war for them and that is why we will continue to fight it.

Hungry Ghosts

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Tibetan Buddhists have this view of a realm in which there exists hungry ghosts. They have mouths to small or necks to thin to pass food for nourishment.

There may be a realm like this, I don’t know.

But it also may be true that ghosts that continue to stay around and haunt particular places here on earth are actually hungry ghosts. Unable to let go of their desires and/or fears, these spirits could be trapped in a type of near perpetual clinging of a particular person, place, or object.

Surely this hungry ghost phenomenon couldn’t explain all hauntings or ghostly activities. But it is likely that there is a great deal of truth to it.

But I think we don’t have to imagine the ghostly realm to get a good understanding of hungry ghosts. We only need to look around us and see the way many people behave.

These living hungry ghosts never seem to get enough and they never seemed satisfied. Instead, they live for more and they are easily disturbed by not having more. They are tormented souls intent on getting what they can at whatever cost to others.

We see these hungry ghosts today all over the news. They are the corporate and financial elite and the political class that literally live for greed and power. They are miserable in their never ending desires, and they can only seem to get some relief from the chase of amassing more and more.

They have too much of everything, but too much is never enough.

Sure they ought to be ashamed of themselves. But they are not.

Instead they spread their misery throughout the planet in their never ending quest for more and more.

Today we live in a world were a billion people are starving. They are not getting enough food. They are not hungry ghosts but they sure are hungry. The hungry ghosts that make up much of the world are too greedy and fearful to find a way to share what they have and to help make the world a better place for all.

Our lot here in this world is very short, no matter if we live to one hundred. Soon we will all be dead. The world’s hungry will hopefully find a better world.

As Jesus once said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven; Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted; Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth; Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied; Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy; Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God; Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God; and Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Hopefully, Jesus is right on what will happen to the people that have tried to live in compassion, have tried to help, and have tried to live in justice and good character.

But the hungry ghosts of the world will continue to live in a constant state of unceasing desire and grasping. They will live in their never ending fear until they eventually make some other transition. Perhaps the Tibetan Buddhists are right. They may go off to the hungry ghost realm where their greed and ceaseless desires will continue to make them miserable. Perhaps they will find themselves in another body to work out their issues.

It is likely that the hungry ghosts will have to take a great deal of time to grow in their understanding (centuries or maybe aeons). We may not be able to hurry their understanding along much. But we should not allow them to dictate our lives and our world.

We should try to expand our own understanding and compassion so that we don’t buy into the conditioning of consumerism and disaster capitalism. Then we can live in a world where the hungry ghosts are no longer in charge. A world in which we have found a way to help those that are really hungry and suffering from the lack of life’s necessities.

Breaking: Israel Attacks Unarmed Aid Ships to Gaza, Reportedly Killing 10 and Injuring 50

Freedom Flotilla banner for pressImage by freegazaorg via Flickr

The Freedom Flotilla was trying to get aid to the suffering Palestinian people of Gaza.

….Eight ships are sailing toward Gaza with 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid to challenge Israel’s blockade of the Palestinian territory. In a legal challenge, an Israeli group wonders why chocolate and other foods bound for Gaza are a security risk….(source: the monitor)

For their humanitarian efforts the Freedom Flotilla has been reportedly attacked by Israel and it appears 10 people were killed.

Some of the past members of the Freedom Flotilla include George Galloway, a British MP, and Cynthia Mckinney, the former US Green Party Presidential Candidate and Congresswoman.

Israel has a long list of humanitarian violations, including the murder of American Rachel Correy for peacefully protesting the demolition of Palestinian homes. (see Rachel Corrie Video Here)

Gaza aid flotilla attacked, 10 killed

Source: Press TV

Israeli forces have attacked the international aid convoy Freedom Flotilla en route to the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 people and leaving more than 50 injured.

The attack came on Monday morning after one of the six ships in the convoy was hit by Israeli navy forces before being stormed by commandos descending from helicopters.

The interception reportedly took place in international waters, more than 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.

Israel had earlier deployed warships and threatened to stop the flotilla from reaching the Palestinian territory where the war-ravaged residents were impatiently eying the arrival of the aid convoy.

Israeli navy forces and helicopters have taken over the ships in the humanitarian aid convoy and are using force against those on board, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Israeli soldiers have also reportedly detained activists accompanying the convoy.

In Gaza, Palestine’s democratically elected Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh strongly condemned the attack on the flotilla and called on the international community to protect the aid mission….MORE

“What the F**k was that For?” LA Police Attack Cyclist, Cameraman at Anti BP Protest

Boycott BPImage by Rusty Boxcars via Flickr

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Bicyclists turned out in LA in a protest against the BP Oil Gusher that is presently killing the Gulf. They normally turn out on Fridays to call attention to cyclists rights. But this Friday, the cyclists wanted to make a statement against BP and the Gulf Disaster.

Evidently the policemen in the video (see below) didn’t like that. Or someone gave them an order to try to ignite violence in a peaceful protest.

So a policeman, out of nowhere, kicks a cyclist and causes him to go crashing down. A cameraman that filmed it asks, “What the F**k was that for.”

The police converge on the cameraman and throw him to the ground. No word if the cameraman was arrested.

“….for whatever reason the police in Hollywood were extremely aggressive and were harassing riders for no reason other than to get their kicks (I presume),” a witness to the incident explains.

Kill the Buddha and Recognize Your Own Buddha Nature

Buddhist child 01Image via Wikipedia

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Recently Buddhists all over the world celebrated Vesak Day (May 29th this year), the birth of the Buddha.

It is indeed great to celebrate greatness.

However, often when we celebrate such greats of humanity, such as the Buddha, we make them into a god. We make them into something that is beyond human and beyond human potential. We worship them instead of honoring them.

The Buddha was once asked if he was an angel or some other holy being, and he said he wasn’t. He said he was awakened.

Many times people try to scare us into believing one religion over another. I have my beliefs that Buddhism offers humanity a spiritual and humane way for humanity to deal with the technology and science of the future.

See also

A Cosmic Religion of the Future

But what is ultimately important is not the name of the religion or spirituality, but the understanding that we gain from it.

Jack Kornfield is credited with being one of the key people to help establish Buddhism in the US. But he says that being a Buddhist is not that important.

“More and more, we’re teaching meditation not as a religious activity but as a support for living a wise and healthy and compassionate inner life,” Kornfield said recently. “A number of the people I teach don’t consider themselves Buddhists, which is absolutely fine with me. It’s much better to become a Buddha than a Buddhist.” (source: latimes)

It has been said that we are all ‘Buddhas in training.’ I fully agree with that.

We live in varying degrees of consciousness, or beingness, which is determined by our level of compassion and understanding. This compassion and understanding arises from our level of awareness or mindfulness. If we allow ourselves to be conditioned into certain patterns of dangerous mental and physical activity then we suffer a great deal. If we are awakening to the true state of our being and our place in the universe then we suffer much less. In fact, this awakening moves us to help alleviate suffering for others.

The Buddha taught that we should examine what others say and not believe claims on mere authority.

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” (source: famouse quotes)

The Buddha wanted us to use reason as well as develop our compassion. He taught an approach that united both the heart and the mind. In order for a human being to awaken they had to think for themselves and examine every aspect of their lives and their society.

But human beings also need to practice the spiritual disciplines of mindfulness and meditation, according to the Buddha. An approach that would develop their hearts and minds and move them past the conditioning, the tunnel vision, and mental constraints that enslave humanity into a certain pattern of constricted being.

A Zen Koan says, “If you meet the Buddha in the road, kill him.”

This Koan is a rather startling way to try to wake our minds up. To get adherents to think beyond authority and worship. A way to try to get the spiritual aspirant to recognize their own Buddha-Nature or Awakened-Nature.

The Buddha tried to get people to recognize and then honor their own Buddha Nature.

If a celebration, a religion, or any activity or practice helps us to recognize this eternal Buddha or Awakened heart/mind that is the foundation of our being, then it is a supremely sublime and blessed activity or practice indeed.

Bulldozing Detroit

Bulldozed TrackbedImage by tj.blackwell via Flickr

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Recently it was reported that Detroit would be one of the US cities likely to go bankrupt in the near future.

Detroit is the symbol of an America that is dying in its Middle and nearly everywhere else.

….Decent three-bedroom homes can be bought for $10,000, but no one wants to buy. Decades of poor and at times corrupt administration have also taken their toll, and with the city facing a deficit of between $85 and $124 million this year, the answer, says Mr Bing, is to accept reality and reduce the size of the city.

“There is just too much land and too many expenses for us to continue to manage the city as we have in the past,” he said. “If we don’t do it, this whole city is going to go down.”

Plans currently being devised would be the most revolutionary carried out by a major American city.

Large chunks of neighbourhoods would be razed and converted to parks, urban farms or simply abandoned. As an opening bid, Mr Bing has vowed to demolish 3,000 homes this year, and a further 7,000 over the following three years. Some are speculating that up to 40,000 homes could eventually go….(source: telegraph.co.uk)

America had a massive attack in the heart of the US. It was brought on from years of globalization and banksterism. That heart attack has spread throughout the country and the disease is killing the body and the limbs of a whole nation.

Our bought off politicians collect their checks, smile, and do nothing. Some talk of “Hope and Change.”

From California to New Jersey and nearly every part in between the American economy is languishing in an undeclared depression.

America has been destroyed by design to usher in the New World Order globalist agenda. The people of the country are expected to support, fight, and die for that Order. But the Globalists won’t employ them. Thus, Detroit is a symbol of America.

A Russian Ministry Report Warns North America Now Faced with Total Destruction

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

Warning! What you are about to read may make you think. Perhaps it may make you want to make some real changes. Perhaps it may make you want to do something.

According to a report by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, the BP Oil Gusher Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico has implications for all of the North American Continent. The report says that the entire continent may be faced with total destruction. The report also calls the BP Gusher “the worst environmental disaster of all times,” according to a European Times story.

It is a quite a disturbing report, and it could be just Russian propaganda. However, it does appear to make some sense.

The problem is not just the oil and gas gushing from what appears are now several gushers but the main problem, according to the Russian report, comes from the Oil Dispersant.

…..Russian scientists believe BP is pumping millions of gallons of Corexit 9500, a chemical dispersal agent, under the Gulf of Mexico waters to hide the full extent of the leak, now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.

Experts say Corexit 9500 is a solvent four times more toxic than oil. The agent, scientists believe, has a 2.61ppm toxicity level, and when mixed with the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, its molecules will be able to “phase transition.”

This transition involves the change of the liquid into a gaseous state, which can be absorbed by clouds. The gas will then be released as “toxic rain” leading to “unimaginable environmental catastrophe” destroying all life forms from the “bottom of the evolutionary chart to the top,” the report said….(source: press tv)

I recently reported on the possibility of a fantastic disaster of unimaginable proportions if the Gulf Coast were to get hit with a hurricane now.

The Black Death? An Extremely Active Hurricane Season Expected

So we are seriously facing a Black Death that goes beyond the massive kill of fish and wildlife of the Gulf Coast Region. The Black Death is facing us in ways that we are just beginning to understand.

For years and years, myself and other like minded people, have warned that the corporate and financial rule of the planet was not only inhumane but also a threat to the survival of the planet. We have seen the melt down of our financial system that will take decades or even a century to get corrected (if it ever gets corrected). Now we see a melt down of the eco-system that is occurring throughout the world (not just in the Gulf). This will take decades or ever a century to get corrected. But there is also a real possibility that we are not going to correct it or that it may even be too late.

As the world bleeds oil, we can remain ignorant and complacent lost in dreams of our own petty greed and selfishness.

Or we can wake up and make some real changes. Not the fake ‘hope and change’ changes offered by the Republicrat Party. But we need a whole systemic change that extends to every aspect of society.

It might be time to do something. Or it could be too late.

But one thing is for sure, it will be too late if we don’t do something.

The Black Death? An Extremely Active Hurricane Season Expected

Collage of several tropical cyclones. All imag...Image via Wikipedia

By Grant Lawrence

Bodhi Thunder

An “active to extremely active” hurricane season is expected for the Atlantic Basin this year according to the seasonal outlook issued today by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center – a division of the National Weather Service. As with every hurricane season, this outlook underscores the importance of having a hurricane preparedness plan in place…..(source: NOAA)

There is talk that this Hurricane Season may be the worst on record. Now sometimes the Hurricane prognosticators are off. This year, let’s hope they are off again.

Hurricane Season begins June 1st and ends in November. The Gulf is considered a ‘Superhighway for Hurricanes’.

So what would happen if a hurricane would hit the Gulf in the midst of this BP Oil Gusher Disaster?

….Some fear a horrific combination of damaging winds and large waves pushing oil deeper into estuaries and wetlands and coating miles of debris-littered coastline in a pungent, sticky mess.

And the worst effects of an oil-soaked storm surge might not be felt for years: If oil is pushed deep into coastal marshes that act as a natural speed bump for storm surges, areas including New Orleans could be more vulnerable to bad storms for a long time….(source: reflector.com)

Right now, nearly everyone understands the environmental damage that is occurring from the BP Oil Gusher. But what is not commonly understood is the human health disaster that will result from the Gusher.

.…The Louisiana Environmental Action Network released its analysis of air monitoring test results by the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA’s air testing data comes from Venice, a coastal community 75 miles south of New Orleans in Louisiana’s Plaquemines Parish.

The findings show that levels of airborne chemicals have far exceeded state standards and what’s considered safe for human exposure….(source: facing south)

I have previously reported on the fishermen that are getting sick from burning lungs from attempting to clean up the BP Mess.

See Also

Fishermen Hospitalized: BP Not Allowing Clean-Up Workers to Use Respirators

Even without a hurricane, people are going to get real sick from the oil and the oil dispersant. But when you add into a the mix a hurricane in the Gulf blowing oil and chemicals all over the coast then we have a potential for the ‘Mother of All Environmental Disasters’.

Remember, all of this didn’t have to happen. It was no accident. It resulted from a lack of governmental regulation and deregulation, and a corporate criminal (BP) that has continually violated environmental regulations and has skirted the law. But Big Oil has been allowed to pollute the planet and they have been well protected by their obscene profits. If a hurricane ushers in a black death that hits the people of the Gulf then maybe things will change. Let’s hope it doesn’t take a great hurricane calamity for things to change.

Let’s make President Obama be the Change he promised, and bring an end to corporate criminality that is presently threatening the life of the planet.
