It has been noted in the literature that regardless of the therapeutic modality, one of the key aspects of whether a distressed person will be able  resolve their distress is the therapeutic alliance that exists between the therapist and the client.   My work, based in  Northeastern Pennsylvania, has been to assist those undergoing extreme states of mind through relational approaches. I have directly challenged the current methods of categorizing ‘mental illness’ as they are awed, subjective, and invented. The common method of bio-psychiatry is merely to suppress the ’symptoms’ and experience of the individual. This leaves the person in a state of being in a stupor, where they may not feel as much distress, but in addition feel very little at all. This is notmy concept of recovery, it goes much beyond this. I invite you to explore some of my work and the principles of returning compassion a dignity to the mental health system of the International Center for Humane Psychiatry.
