We should all know by now that George Will is possibly the tooliest of all the corporate shills in print. He deliberately misrepresents the facts of climate change on an ongoing basis. He has the cajones to call out researchers for the name-calling of skeptics, while his columns hypocritically impugn the character of literally tens of thousands of serious scientists, from all over the world, in a broad range of disciplines. He doesn’t seem to get that even he, erudite George Will, might get a bit testy if he was constantly being shouted down by people who didn’t have the slightest fucking clue what they’re talking about, but sure sounded authoritative…
George is just a mild mannered conservative pundit by day, but at night he puts on his codpiece and lab coat and transforms into a super-heroic academic who serves justice by peer reviewing atmospheric research. No, although he probably fantasizes about such heroics, that’s not even close. What he truly has become is a future Bulwer-Lytton contestant for best purple prose posing as non-fiction, because the shit he writes can best be described as flowery fantasy…
I have always been bothered by this dissembling dipshit’s propaganda and its effects on the scientifically ignorant. But now, even George has taken his crude arguments too far by saying “A religion is what the faith in catastrophic man-made global warming has become.”
Apparently knowledge of the scientific consensus for climate change, and of the soundness of the science involved has become just another religious orthodoxy. Does he truly believe this knowledge is somehow based on faith, as opposed to decades of empirical observation? Sorry George but that is just a fucking insult to the whole of the scientific community. It seems to me that his state of denial is closer to an actual religion. If you define religion as, A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. Then you get what George is selling. It is faith, based on the unyielding belief that contrary to the overwhelming amount of evidence, climate change isn’t happening…
The answer is of course we do, this is America after all. My question is why isn’t the suicide attack on a federal building that occurred in Texas being called an act of terrorism? Is it because it was perpetrated by a doughy middle-aged white guy with a grudge against the federal government as opposed to a shadowy Muslim death cult with a grudge against the federal government? An FAA spokesperson said that it was “clearly a criminal act”, but aren’t all terrorist attacks, clearly criminal acts as well? Of course they are, but if you call one obviously disturbed individual shooting up a military base an act of terror, then why not this? What possible reason could there be to call this anything but what it was, a textbook example of terrorism.
This has already been totally politicized in the blogosphere with people on the right blaming the left and people on the left blaming the right. Some are even calling this person a hero, even going as far as starting an Assbook Facebook page to lionize him. Sorry folks, but that is seriously fucked-up. You wouldn’t say that about the 9/11 hijackers would you?
The perpetrator’s own ramblings reveal little, other than his general disdain for the federal government, our tax system, the bail-outs, and the tax-exempt status of the Catholic church. His writings sound more like someone who believed themselves to be victimized by what they perceived to be an inherently unfair, overly bureaucratic, perhaps even Kafkaesque system that favors corporations over the little people. I don’t perceive any specific political philosophy. He didn’t come off as a partisan ideologue, just angry. It’s much more likely that he suffered from a severe persecution complex.
So maybe we should refrain from politicizing the horribly selfish act of an obviously disturbed douche-bag. Being angry with the government seems like a fairly non-partisan issue to me. His problems with the IRS appears to be totally self induced. Perhaps if he had a competent tax attorney, or hadn’t spent so much time in the last thirty years listening to the tax protesters as he alluded to in his manifesto. Or maybe if he had just paid his fucking taxes, then maybe this tragedy wouldn’t have happened…
At least now, hopefully, we can safely put to rest the whole ‘Only Muslims fly airplanes into buildings’ meme…
Those wacky Teabaggers are at it again, this time right here in my home state. At a meeting somewhere in the whites-only part of the state, not surprisingly very close to the Idaho border, there was a klavern meeting in which a speaker (although it was difficult to hear them clearly through that silly hood) expressed their desire to lynch our U.S. senator, Patty Murray. Now you may disagree with Patty’s politics, but wanting to string her up for whatever perceived slight might just be a bit over the top. It may in fact be a federal crime, but I am not sure about that. Regardless, it is unconscionable that a Washington resident would profess something so truly fucking odious…
I don’t recall anything similar being said by anyone on the left in a public forum, even in the darkest days of the Bush debacle. But I’m sure someone at Faux news or Regressive radio will defend this kind of hate speech and will bend over backwards to create the illusion of equivalence with the left.
This incident portrays with crystal clarity the divide in the state of Washington. Not only do the Cascades divide us physically, they divide us politically as well. Fortunately for Washingtonians the vast majority of people live on the west side (or sane side) of the mountains, which unfortunately leaves the easterners politically impotent, and probably leads directly to the kind of stupidity expressed by this individual. To any progressives living in eastern Washington, you are brave souls and I don’t mean to generalize, but you still see a lot of Bush/Cheney stickers on the back of pick-ups, as if the last decade didn’t happen.
Sadly these folks are just mad at the wrong fucking people. Not to defend Patty Murray’s record which is admittedly fairly mediocre. But Patty isn’t the source of your problems. Thirty years of insane economic policies and run away military spending brought to us by corporate-owned Republicans and conservative Democratic enablers like the Clinton’s are the cause, in other words – the assholes you idiots have been voting for for the last thirty years. Putting all the blame on our current leaders is just as fucking stupid as calling President Obama a socialist. Sure there is plenty of blame to go around, but seriously, most of you fucktwits would gladly put George Bush back in office again – admit it! You have no business acting all righteous-angry-whitey because you are equally responsible…
Frankly you sound more like spoiled teenagers than rational adults. Put away the hanging rope, snuff out the torches, and please come down from the edge of insanity. It’s great you’re finally getting involved in politics, but please try being something other than an angry mob of clueless vigilantes…
